RSS Feed Search Engine - Octora

Hey Everyone,

A new RSS feed search engine was launched today - and it is called Octora.

The service is built using the experience from previous work on search engine development, plus the help of some others developers.

Some of the strongest points of Octora:

- provides extrmely fast search results

- it is indexing "almost" anything that has RSS and Atom content in It (well, having atom support is the next step, right now is in beta testings).

- spam free results icon_smile

The search engine also provides advertising solutions for people who want to advertise their sites, and the traffic is coming from advertising until this service will be on it's own.

P.S. An ad to a very popular internet marketing radio station (NetBizRadio) will run this weekend and will expose the service to thousands of marketers out there.

Best!

News + Two new services for Bloggers!

Hey bloggers,

Today we got very important news for you. We have lauched two new services, related to blogging. First one is for people with limited hosting bandwidth and disk space, and it's called PicHub.

PicHub is an easy way to upload pics online, and share them with your friends, tag them, browse them, and the membership is free of charge for a limited period of time.

Unlike the other services, pichub hosts your pic forever, without later removal (if you agree with the terms & conditions of the service).

The other service, is a twin website, and will help you generate and manage online polls. It will help you on your surveying campaign.

Becoming a member on ThyPoll takes only 30 seconds.

Please visit: ThyPoll

And, because this is a news post, we have a great news for Pingoat's fans: the goat has been aquired by somebody else.

We'll keep you posted regarding the new moves on Pingoat.

Have fun pinging!

Pingoat tools

Hello pingers,

We recently worked on adding more usability to the Goat.

Because most of this website's visitors are using the Pingoat for getting more people on their blogs/websites, we developed some cool tools which will help you to understand what's the next thing you should do on your blog.

We added the following new features:

- a keyword analysis tool
- an advanced spider simulator
- email anti-spam generator
- New: blog worth.

Don't forget that you still have the resources which will help you to submit your blog everywhere on the internet, and also, we have the goolge sitemap generator.

We also added more functionality to the pingoat link page, you can simply get the copy/paste code to link to us.

The link to all the tools from Pingoat is:

http://pingoat.com/goat/tools

Have fun with it, and please contact us if you have suggestions or requests, we would love to add them.

LATER EDIT: We added a new tool which calculates the $ value of your blog based on the number of inboud links, the blogs linking to your blog and the technorati rank: How much is your blog worth?

Remember, the last tool added (blog worth) it's for fun, just like the other ones, so don't treat it like a real tool for selling/buying a blog. We are only considering things like: inbound links, blog links, etc. It's just a useful tool to use and helps you understand when your blog's value goes up or down.

All the best,
The Goat Shepherds

Two services removed from the list

Hello goat lovers,

We just removed 2 services from Pingoat's pinged services list because we studied this months report and it seems like they have huge problems with keeping their services online.

We are talking about to "non-english services": weblogues.com and dontpushme.com.

They have problems, and they create problems to Pingoat, too.

In order to improve your experience with the goat, we have to keep an eye on the services which aren't pinged for technical reasons.

The system works simple: each time you ping, we record if the ping was received. If there is an error we write that down - automatically.

We use a reporting system, but this time, we received too many complaints that these two services have problems most of the time.

The result... faster pinging, better traffic experience.

Until next time, enjoy pinging!

Pingoat's Pinging System Improved

G'day Pingers!

The goat had some hard times in the past but not anymore. We received some reports that the image verification system wasn't working very well.

Bugs fixed! The next step will be to remove the pinged services which don't respond at all and add new ones which will get more traffic and spiders on your blog.

A new thing on pingoat's main page is the HeadlineRoll we installed and it is powered by our sister service, iPings.com. That's a cool way to stay in touch with the news and we hope many people will start to use it.

For example if you have many blogs that you like, you could simply join them together on ipings, create a common RSS feed, put it into the reader, grab the code, and there you go... all the websites that you like in a single, cool way of showing it to your friends.

Here's the official link: Online RSS Feed Reader

Using that service you will be able to create a HeadlineRoll (as we like to name it) in seconds. Have fun with it!

We are also preparing something big for you people, so stay tunned.

The Shepherds

New service added

Hello pingers,

A new service will be pinged by Pingoat. It's called HolyCowDude and it is a search engine which crawls your blog for new posts.

Image

After each ping, you will have the HolyCowDude/0.1 Feeds Searcher on your website crawling for feeds in just 1-2 minutes. If you don't want him there, and if you are not into getting traffic on your website, you can change your robots.txt file and dissalow the Cow's access, but if you want to get more people on your blog, keep pinging on each post update.

Also, we received notices that some webservices aren't responding and we should update the list. We are handling this problem right now, and we came up with a solution:

Each time a service doesn't respond, we use a counter. If the number of errors is huge compared with the numbers of pings (40%), we remove the service.

We undestand that some servers might have problems but we want to improve your experience with Pingoat and provide faster services. That's why we will remove the ones which don't respond on most of the requests sent from the goat.

Enjoy!

Important!! Pingoat becomes user friendly...

Hot News about the Goat!

Dear Pingoat fans, lovers, haters, and so on. Recently, all of you have noticed some really strange changes around this orange goat.... Many of you got blacklisted without any explanation , other were whitelisted very fast, or we ignored your email, comments, or forum posts.

The reason it happened it's because like everyone, we are putting a lot of effort to maintain and improve our website since it was aquired.

So... before moving to the good part of the news, I am going to tell you how this pingoat really works.

There are two kinds of people out there, and we all know that:

a) good people
b) bad people

The good people, are the ones who have decent content, people who like to monetise their blogs (or not), and who add posts in their blogs on a constant basis. Life's good for them.

On the other hand, we have the bad guys (male and female) who are using all sorts of crappy software which generates thousands of keyword rich blogs which aren't really usefull to the humans. Not only the content it's crap, but many times, they get very good search engine ranks because of the highly optimised articles which are only machine generated content.

Also, these people use some sort of 24$ software which pings a lot of services. We hate that, no one wants to see the Goat dead because some lady wants her machine generated blog to be ranked #1 in google.

And that's why our friend Kailash invented the spam filter, along with the Splogspot.com website, where you can see a beautiful list with that kind of crap blogs.

The bad guys use certain english language patterns which simulate the natural way of building a blog, that's why most of your blogs trigger the spam filter. The spam filter cannot make a good difference from what is human and what is generated by machines (SPAM).

Let's get to the point because we want to tell you that we improved the service:

1) the bad guys won't be here anymore (the filter is more effective)
2) the good guys are able to whitelist their blogs using their own hand.

How's that....?

Well, if you see that "Hold it right there" message (I'm starting to hate it too, but it's cool, Kailash did a great job, and the phsychologic impact it's wonderful... icon_lol ), you can simply submit a code into the image verification box, and you are whitelisted.

Because robots can't read images, they will fail to verify the code, and after three unsuccessfull attempts, they will be banned forever.

It's a good practice -- the good guys will be whitelisted automatically, and the bad guys will be banned forever.

On the other hand, if you can't see the code, because you may have problems with the eyesight, please drop us an email, or anything which might give us a notice about this problem. We will be happy to help you, and we will also implement an audio image verification system for people which cannot deschipher the code from the verification image.

When you are blacklisted... if you are blacklisted, go there on the main page, fill the fields with your blog's details, and then ping! If you are blacklisted, an image verification system will pop and if you submit the right code, you will be whitelisted automatically and then you can ping how much you want.

Image

REMEMBER. If the filter is not fully convinced that you are not a robot trying to guess the verification code, it might tell you that you are whitelisted, and then it will ask the confirmation code once again. It's no problem, submit it, and you're done!

"The message said if I don't insert the right code I will be blacklisted forever!!? This is something that my competitors could do against my business!" ... said someone

It's not like that, you can come back in 10 minutes and try again, so it's no problem with this issue.

One more thing....

The comments are back, but we really insist that you should not insert ANY links into your replies because they will be deleted. We are sorry for that, but the spam people are adding lots of spam comments stuffed with links , and we really don't have time to separate the bad comments from the good ones.

If you have a comment which involves a link, or a suggestion which might direct us to an URL, please open a new thread in our goat community and we will be happy to get there and read all the info.

Also, some people came on the forum and complained about the fact that we are increasing the number of members on our board by blacklisting your blogs just to have you there and report the issue. No, totally wrong, a comunity it's based on good emotions. No-one wants to have a community filled with people who began to hate the goat just because they were blacklisted, that's not a good friendly start, right?

Anyways, have fun with the goat, and if something happens, you have the forum, or the contact form.

Thank you for being with us, great job everyone!

The Goat's Friendly Shepherds!

Pinging off-site is off

Dear Pingers,

For certain reasons we are unable to provide access to the RPC off-site pinging service.

From now on, if you want to ping your blog to all the 50 services, you must use the on-site form which delivers the pings.

This measure was taken since the people started to use the RPC offsite service very intense and our server had problems to send the pings.

So, instead of providing TWO bad services (off-site and on-site) we agreed to go for the best choice. Offering the best pinging service online.

You won't see any bugs from now on, and you are free to ping as much as you wish. But only by visiting pingoat's main page.

The offsite feature will be available, but we cannot inform you about the date when it will get back.

News about spamming the GoatLog

SPAM has problems,

Probably some of you noticed that your comments were gone.

That's because we are spending WAY too much time on deleting the spam comments, that's why we are using a mass comment delete script which deletes any comment that contains links.

So, if you have a link for us, please contact us privately, we are friendly people, but daily, we will run that script which deletes any comment which contains a link.

Until next time!

Vladimir

Pingoat Will Have a Quick Upgrade

Hello Pingers,

As you can see, we stoped the commenting system for a while because of those spammers who were posting different links to automated generated blogs/forums/porn websites, and other things.

All the comments are still there, but we stopped the commenting until we find something more efficient.

Until then, we will put a small CAPTCHA image there to stop the bots from pinging, this way, we make sure that no blogs will get banned :-)

I have two options:

1) installing the image verification code before starting pinging

or

2) Watching the image verification field after you ping and something it's not good on your blog. We thing this is bettter than the first option.

Until next time!

Vladimir

Your suggestions are required - Pingoat Upgrade

Hello there dear pingers,

We want to make Pingoat better and we also want to improve the relationship between us, and the Pingoat's users.

Because of that, we need your suggestions:

What Do You Want From The New Pingoat?

Here's what we want:

* We will work on building a list of guidelines for the pingers, and also,

* we will improve the main problem of this website: the spam filter.

Kailash had a great impact on pingoat and you will always see his name at the bottom of each page of this website.

However, things are moving fast, and we want to offer second to none services.

We expect to see you requests here for the new upgrade of Pingoat.

Sincerely,
Vladimir

Introduction and announcements!

Hi pingoat users.

First of all let me introduce myself. I am Tim Phelan and I have been making a living online sice mid 2004. I love this business and am totally involved with it.

It fascinates me and excites me. I am sure most of you feel the same.

When I saw that pingoat was for sale by Kailash I thought this would be an interesting site to look into. I had used pingoat myself for a few months and I knew Pingoat was used by many of the people I was in contact with online. I also realised that blogging is super popular and would remain that way for quite a while. More importantly it is fun. ;-)

So after emailing Kailash a few times we agreed on a price.

Congratulations to Kailash!!

He has done a great job in creating this site and building it up. I wish him all the luck in the world in the future. What a great start to a business career!

So what are we going to do now, Vladimir and I? Vladimir is my programmer and friend from Romania who never sleeps. :-) He lives in Ireland now and since I am Irish American we have a connection of sorts. He is a good guy and has some ideas about pingoat's future also. Together we have dicussed this and here are some directions pingoat will be going very soon:

1. We will have to stop all the free offsite API usage of the pingoat.com service.

2. We will keep the free onsite service of course. The pinging service will always be free at the website itself.

3. We will create a paid membership for the offline use of our service. This membership will have other services and bonuses. These will be announced later.

4. More than likely we will create an affiliate program where the members can actually make money.

These are the 4 basic points I wanted to make now.

I hope members will take a good look at what we offer for our membership and then decide. But the point here is we HAD to do this. Our main goal is to keep this site going. It is a great service! :-)

We would eventually have to get several dedicated servers and spend thousands of dollars a months to keep providing this free service.

This change can be a good thing for everyone. Wait to see what we will be able to put together for the membership and affiliate program. There will be other benefits and bonuses for the membership. Give us some time and please be patient.

Let me emphasize again, the service will remain free at the website. That will not change.

Thanks for reading this and using the terrific pingoat service.

Regards,
Tim

Bye bye Pingoat

Ok, its done now. Pingoat acquisition is 'officially' done. Pingoat's new technical admin will be Vladimir. He's a good person with the right knowledge and I am sure he'll look after the goat well :)

Dear friends, its been nice working with you all. My wholehearted thanks to all of you people who have stood with Pingoat at its good and bad times alike and made the goat a popular celebrity. I equally apologise to all those who have been troubled by the goat. The bigger the goat grew, the naughtier it became and it became very very difficult for me to manage. Hopefully the new administration will make Pingoat even better and healthier.

Once again, Thank you all ! Thank you Pingoat and Thank you God.

DDOS attacks!

Why would anyone ddos Pingoat! Well, thats what has been happening for the last two days. The server was so overloaded that I had to take Pingoat down for some time. Anyway, its back up and running but the RPC server has been temporarily disabled. Fortunately, the attack was 'lite' and nothing serious occured. Sorry for the inconvenience..

Spammers hate me

Splogs get media attention

Splogs have become a hot topic lately and has started getting some good media attention. Today morning, I was skimming through "The Hindu", I stumbled upon an article titled - "Splogs" , the curse of blogging community. Nothing new, just the definition of splogs and a basic outline. But then I was surprised to see something, a reference to splogspot.com :)

URGENT: Help needed

Ok, things just got worse. Pingoat is dying. The server is choking to death. Please immediately contact me at kailash.nadh@gmail.com if you can offer help in anyway. It wouldnt be more than a few days before the whole server collapses :| So please do offer a helping hand if possible. URGENT

Help Pingoat?

Great. the server has started choking again. Firewalls aren't working properly and guess what, a couple of rootkits and trojans have been planted on the server! The CPU is on maximum load every second and so is the memory.

Is there anyone who could donate Pingoat some good computing power (in return for credits) ? Pingoat currently runs on a dedicated server, but its already become a huge mess. To clean the server, the OS will have to be reinstalled and that costs quite some doughnuts :)

Anyone willing to sponsor some dedicated hosting or something? ( You can always drop me a mail - kailash@pingoat.com )

Splog boom

This week, the blogosphere witnessed a 'splog boom'. Hundreds of thousands of splogs were created on the one and only 'blogspot.com' (Google's) and they were flooding Ping services like hell. Fortunately for Pingoat, it didnt create much of a problem, and guess what, infact it turned out to be a good supper for Splogspot.com ; The last week, the splogspot's DB actually grew four times its original size.

And yeah, I am not at all Surprised by this Splog boom on Blogger. Infact, I was expecting this and I knew sooner or later splogs would infest Blogger. I think I've mentioned it already in one of my posts, I had sent an email to Blogger the second week after Pingoat was launched. It was an email compsed of a bit (rudeness+a lot of frustruation+some anger) asking Google to take some action on the increasing spam on Blogger. But naturally, they never responded to my mail :P But in a couple weeks, they added the Flagging functionality (which I say, is pretty useless).

Funny
All those hungry, drooling wolves (SPLOGS) coming to feed on the fleshy Pingoat is actually being caged and getting a 'death sentence' for life on Pingoat. Oh yeah, Pingoat is acting as the bait+trap+cage :D

Feedburner's PingShot

Feedburner launched a pinging service named "PingShot" recently. Its supposed to ping to a number of services, just like Pingoat does, everytime you update you feed. But odd enough, they have included certain Ping services like Pingoat, that again ping the same sites Pingshot pings individually.

A couple days back, FeedBurner contacted me saying that they're interested in adding Pingoat to their ping list. Indeed I was really excited about this. But out of perplexion, I asked them how their pinging works, i.e, how does it prevent ping redundancy (what i mentioned above). But still, I haven't received any answer.

So unless FeedBurner is doing something to stop ping redundancy, pinging services like Pingoat from within their system, along with the individual pings they send is a major flaw. Still unsure why they aren't taking any action on this matter.

UPDATE
I've heard from FeedBurner and I see light! :) Will post once everything is confirmed.

PS: And yes, Pingoat has a lot of surprise services coming soon, just for you! :D

weblogUpdates.extendedPing

Pingoat will soon be adding support for the weblogUpdates.extendedPing method. I am always looking for innovation and I'll be more than happy to try out new concepts :) The only question is, which all services support this method! ?

Spammer's Nightmare !

You'll be seeing a brand new and interesting service in a week :) Yes, Pingoat's sister project, The " " :P Wait for a week..

With this unique, first of its kind service, I hope to expose all the spammers all around the web. Maybe this will put an end to the blog spam permanently! ( just maybe.. )

When algorithms go wrong!

Alogorithms can do demolition. Atleast it did, in my case! Pingoat's anti-spam algorithms got too smart and did a real stampede, banning everything. :| And thanks to everyone for your overwhelming response (complaints) that crashed my mailbox!! :D

Again I am really sorry for what happened and I assure you, no such thing will happen in the future. I am rewriting the antispam system and making it a bit more efficient. ( The current one was highly efficient, but it ended up banning every single blog )

A forum !
Oh come on! Not another forum!! Thanks to Steven Hargrove (DigidogStudios.com) who was kind enough to customize and setup a forum for pingoat. Now I suppose if ever something goes wrong, that can be reported on the forum. Complaints and all will be immediately taken care of.
http://pingoat.com/forum

Update
I had taken down the spam filter for an hour or so, when I was working on the security system. I am really stunned to see the number of spam blogs that got into the system in that tiny interval!

Maintenance

It seems there has been something wrong Icerocket rpc server. They accept only one parameter now (blog_url). When the blogname and blogurl was passed, the server returned an error saying "Expecting two parameters (3 provided)"! Weird.

And Technorati is now looking into the issue Pingoat has with TR (pingoat's pings weren't been accepted by Technorati). It'll be resolved asap. Routine checkups revealed that everything was working fine and all the pings were being delivered properly.

PS: I am thinking of a new addition to Pingoat, an RSS submitter ;)

Major improvements

After the first run, I noticed some glitches in the Pingoat engine. Like the time lag one would get, before seeing the output, if submitting to more than ten ping services. Its fixed now. Now one can see live results of his submission. The response from each service is shown in real time, one by one. And also, I've added a few more security measures to prevent spam pings.
